With a city that has been so blessed with natural beauty, checking a list of Auckland attractions may seem pointless. But in addition to the beautiful coastline and the impressive mountains, Auckland has more than its fair share of historic buildings, important museums and must see art galleries. A true contemporary art space that features a basic layout and exhibitions dedicated to every kind of art imaginable. Often an exhibition space for students, the gallery also hosts contemporary traveling shows, as well.

Ever wanted your own key to a major art gallery? The creedo at Artstation is that it’s always open. If you find it closed, simply ask an employee for the key. Inside you’ll find energetic works from some of the cities best young artists.

4. Auckland Botanic Gardens - Hill Rd - website

The botanical gardens are a fun and interesting way to spend the day if you have a family with small kids. There are plenty of attractions here for all ages, including a fun maze, as well as plants and flowers from all over the world.

5. Auckland Museum - Domain Dr 1001 - website

One of the biggest buildings in all of Auckland houses a stunning museum dedicated to exploring the life and culture of the Maori. There is also an excellent children’s center that entertains while it educates. A must visit for all tourists.

6. Auckland Zoo - Motions Rd - website

The Auckland Zoo proves that it isn’t the size of the zoo that counts, but the contents and the presentation that really matter. This is a beautiful preserve for animals and a fun and affordable way to spend a day with the family.

7. Coast to Coast Walkway - website

Who knew the distance between two major bodies of water was only 16 kilometers. Go from one coast to another on the Coast to Coast Walkway, but bring comfortable shoes!

8. North Head - website

One of New Zealand’s most interesting features is the fact that it is very active seismically. North Head is actually a volcanic cone, extinct thankfully, that is believed to have blown over 50, 000 years ago.

One of the most popular art spaces in the city, the Oedipus Rex Gallery is dedicated to exploring art in every medium available, including paints, photography and many others.

10. Parnell Baths - Judges Bay Rd - website

Enjoy the largest outdoor salt water pool in the country, as well as many other wet and wild amenities. A perfect summer getaway for a low, low price. But get there early, this place is popular!
